Box Score KEENE, N.H. - The Keene state College field hockey team fell to No. 11 Amherst College, 2-0 Tuesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.
The Owls are now 3-3 following the loss, while the Lord Jeffs improve to 3-2.
Amherst got on the board in the ninth minute after Annika Nygren's shot was saved by Keene State goalkeeper Meaghan Dwyer. Madeline Tank collected the rebound and fed Ellie Anderson for the 1-0 lead.
After a scrum in front of the net, Amherst was awarded a penalty stroke at 10:38 taken by Caroline Fiore, who converted for the 2-0 advantage.
The Owls best chance to score came in the first half as Mariah Barnett dribbled up the middle of the field, passed to Brittney Cardente streaking down the left sideline, who then sent a cross just beyond the reach of Marisa Lemoine on the right goal post.
Both teams played a scoreless second half as Amherst earned the 2-0 win.
The Lord Jeffs outshot KSC 15-7 and held a slim 5-3 advantage in penalty corners.
In goal, Dwyer was kept busy as she collected eight saves in the setback. Emily Horwitz earned the shutout making five stops.
The Owls resume LEC play Saturday at Bridgewater State at 3:30 p.m. Amherst returns to the field Saturday at 11 a.m. when they host Williams in NESCAC action.
