KSC Snaps Three Game Skid With 1-0 Win Over Worcester State

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass.--Conor Leahy's goal in the 59th minute was all that was needed as the Keene State College men's soccer team beat Worcester State University 1-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

The Owls ended a three game losing streak to improve to 2-3 on the season.  The Lancers are now 1-4-1.  KSC held a 13-6 advantage in shots, and used the offensive push to attack the Lancers early.

Leahy put a shot wide of the mark in the fifth minute, and saw another blocked 30 seconds later.  Eddie Mercer nearly put the Owls in front just before the halftime break, but was denied by WSU goalie Emil Dedo.

KSC did get the only goal they would need in the second half.  Mercer floated in a cross, and Leahy's touch allowed him to control and beat Dedo, scoring his second of the season.

Mercer might have added to the KSC lead with three minutes to play, but Dedo made one of his three saves to deny him.

Mike Ketterman picked up his first shutout of the season, making one stop in the process.

Keene State continues its road trip, heading to Plymouth State University for the Little East Conference opener for both teams on Saturday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be at New Hampton School. WSU will also be on the road to open MASCAC action, heading to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on for 1 p.m. start.
