Farland Nets Game Winner In 1-0 Win Over Framingham State

Box Score

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--Freshman Taylor Farland celebrated being named Little East Conference Rookie of the Week by scoring her second game winner in three games in a 1-0 non-conference win over Framingham State University on Tuesday night.

The Owls (2-1), playing for the third time in four days on a muggy, hot night, ground out a road win over a Rams team that had posted a 3-0 victory in last year's fixture.

KSC held a slim 4-2 edge in shots in the first half, but could not find away past FSU goalie Sara Sullivan.  The Rams (0-1) opened up the second half with a pair of shots by Isabela Desouza, but the first sailed over the crossbar and the second was blocked by the Owl defense.

Farland, who has three of the four goals thus far this season, picked up the game winner in the 66th minute with a long strike that moved from right to left into the top corner.

Framingham State tried to force their way back into the match, but senior goalie Torrie Crenson stuffed Molly Kelley in the 80th minute and Desouza again in the 83rd.  Farland nearly put the game to bed two minutes from time but Sullivan made a save to deny her a second goal.

KSC will continue their season opening road trip with a visit to Endicott College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.  The Rams host Clark (Mass.) at 10 a.m. on the same day.
