Box Score NEW HAMPTON, N.H.--Plymouth State University scored the game winning goal early in the second half for a 2-1 victory over Keene State College at the New Hampton School on Saturday night.
The game marked the opening of Little East Conference play for both teams. Keene State drops to 2-4, and 0-1 in the LEC, while Plymouth State is 2-5, and 1-0 against Little East foes.
Plymouth State took the lead in the eighth minute of the game when Adam Edmunds scored on a feed from Nick Rutherford and Refaat Bashir.
The Owls responded in the 20th minute, when Promise Kpee scored his second goal of the season off a Conor Leahy assist.
The score remained tied at halftime, but 16 minutes after the restart, the Panthers went back in front. After KSC's Eddie Mercer forced a save from PSU goalie Felix Lindeberg, the Panthers got an unassisted tally from Senad Mehmedovic in the 62nd minute.
That goal proved to be the game winner, as KSC went in search of another tying goal, and nearly got it through Michael Jacques' effort in the 79th minute of the game.
Keene State will finish a set of four games away from home with a trip to Green Mountain College on Wednesday, September 24 at 3 p.m. Plymouth State is off until Friday, September 26, when the Panthers host the University of Southern Maine in another LEC contest.
