Box Score POULTNEY, Vt.--Connor Leahy netted a brace as the Keene State College men's soccer team scored four times in the first 15 minutes of the game en route to a comprehensive 7-0 win over Green Mountain College on Wednesday afternoon.
Keene State, which won for the second time in three games, is now 3-4, while the Eagles loss drops them to the same record.
Keene State opened up the scoring just inside of the eight minute mark when freshman defender Cam Rogers rose up and headed in a cross from senior defender Yazid Eizdah. Just thirty seconds later senior forward Michael Jacques put home a pass from freshman midfielder Riley Steele to make it 2-0 Keene State.
Leahy, the reigning LEC Rookie of the Week, scored the next two goals for the visitors to extend the lead to 4-0 before freshman forward Promise Kpee and junior forward Eddie Mercer scored on penalty kicks to end the first half scoring.
The second half was witness to only one goal, another converted penalty kick by KSC's sophomore defender Dylan Bisceglia.
KSC had a trio of goalkeepers share the shutout in the win. Senior Michael Ketterman picked up the win without having to make a save. Junior Jacob Walker replaced him at halftime and played 31 and a half minutes while making one save. Junior John Fitzgerald played the final minutes in net for the Owls without making a save.
KSC outshot the Eagles 35-2 overall while holding an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The 7-0 margin marked the most goals KSC had scored in a game since a 9-3 win over Salem State University a season ago. It was the biggest margin of victory since a 7-0 win over Husson on September 6, 2008.
The Owls return home after four games away from Owl Athletic Complex to host Eastern Connecticut State University at 1 p.m. this Saturday. Green Mountain will play UMaine-Farmington in the North Atlantic Conference opener for both teams.
