Box Score KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College women's soccer team picked up a 2-2 tie with UMass Boston on a chilly Senior Day at Owl Athletic Complex.
Before the game, KSC honored their four seniors - Kathryn Hoar, Ellen Granata, Shannon Summers, and Jennifer Wilson. The result improves KSC's record to 9-5-3, and 3-2-1 in the LEC while the Beacons are now 4-11-2, and 3-2-1 in the LEC.
The three ties are the most in a season for the Owls since the 2011 season. KSC also finished with at least three ties in 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2009.
Playing in biting wind and overcast conditions, both teams struggled to generate momentum in the opening 45 minutes. KSC carved out a chance through Taylor Farland in the fourth minute, but the Beacons opened the scoring Kerri Alexander looped a shot over the head of Hoar in the 13th minute.
The game remained 1-0 at halftime, but Keene State came out with renewed purpose in the second half, earning three corner kicks in the first five minutes of the stanza. The Owls leveled up matters in the 56th minute when Farland whipped in a free kick for Patricia Norton to head home for her fifth goal of the season.
The Owls continued to pour on the pressure, as Brittany Tolla and Zoe Paige forced saves out of UMB goalie Alyssa Fugiel. Sierra Trzepacz might have put the Owls in front in the 65th minute, but Fugiel saved her shot in traffic.
One minute later, Keene State was in front, through Summers, who poked home her sixth goal of the season.
With eight minutes to go, the Beacons rallied to force overtime. Kate Leavitt's corner kick met a cluster of players in the box, and Jaclyn O'Grady nudged the ball over the line to tie the score.
Neither team could find a goal in overtime, and the game finished tied. Both teams sit on 10 points in the Little East Conference, one point behind third place UMass Dartmouth, which has 11 points.
Hoar, who was making her first start of the season, finished with five saves, while Fugiel made 11 for the Beacons.
Keene State will play their final non-conference game of the year on the road at Westfield State, on October 28 at 7 p.m. The Beacons play at Bridgewater State on October 27 at 3 p.m.
