Records Fall As Owls Rout Eagles

Box Score

KEENE, N.H.--Sophomore Promise Kpee set a new school record for goals in a game as the Keene State College men's soccer team scored a comprehensive 13-2 win over Green Mountain College in non-conference action at Owl Athletic Complex on Thursday night.

Kpee scored five times, breaking a KSC record that had been held by four different players.  John Harke accomplished the feat against UMass Dartmouth in 2003, while Jason Lombardo also did it in that year against Eastern Connecticut State.

Jesus Menendez scored four in a game against UMass Lowell in 1987, and Rit Swain did it against St. Anselm in 1971.

Kpee's five goals also gave him 10 points in a game, breaking Harke and Lombardo's shared record for their games in 2003.

The Owls had a 3-0 lead before three minutes had been played.  Kpee took advantage of a misplay by Green Mountain to score just 46 seconds into the game, and Cam Rogers scored in much the same manner 45 seconds after that.  Kpee got the next two, before Green Mountain got their first of the game on Nate Laymon's free kick.

Anuj Khadka and Conor Leahy both scored in the first half to give KSC a 6-1 lead at halftime.

Kpee scored twice more in the second half, as did Eddie Mercer, David Villalobos, Jacob Blueglass, Jacob Papanicolaou, and Justin Coelho.

Green Mountain got their second goal of the game with 13 minutes left on a free kick fron Nazar Zhukovskyy.

Three goalies saw time in net for KSC; Justin Carnevale played the first half, without making a save.  Jacob Walker saw his first action of the season and made one save in 23:35.  Patrick Whelan came on for his collegiate debut and also made one save in 21:25.

Samuel Nichols made 11 stops for Green Mountain.  KSC outshot the Eagles 32-5.

The 13 goals also tied the school record for team goals in a game, set against Hilbert College (N.Y.) in September 1997.

KSC resumes Little East Conference play with a visit from Plymouth State on Saturday at 1 p.m.  The Eagles host New England College at noon on the same day.
