Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Plymouth State University scored three times in the second half on their way to a 4-2 win over Keene State College in Little East Conference action on Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.
It was the first win for the Panthers in Keene since 2007. KSC falls to 3-5, and 1-1 in the LEC, while the Panthers are 3-3-1, and 1-0-1 in league play.
In a rough and tumble game that saw six yellow cards handed out, it was the Panthers who took the lead in the 19th minute. Alex Herbert's shot in traffic took a massive deflection that wrongfooted KSC goalie Mark Keller for his third goal of the year.
PSU counterpart Felix Lindeberg kept Conor Leahy's shot out in the 27th minute as the Panthers kept the lead at halftime.
10 minutes into the second half, KSC was level; Aidan Dean fed Conor Leahy down the left side, and Leahy's slide rule pass to Promise Kpee gave the sophomore the perfect space to thread his seventh goal of the season past Lindeberg.
The Panthers retook the lead four minutes later, through Micah Peterson's looped cross-turn-shot that dropped into the net, and made it 3-1 in the 72nd minute when Juan Rivera, who had just checked into the game, scored his first of the year.
KSC roared into life, and made it a 3-2 game with 11 minutes to go. Kpee, who broke the KSC record for goals in a game in the Owls' last outing against Green Mountain, swept in a free kick from just outside the 18 yard box for his seventh goal in two games.
Lindeberg, who finished with eight saves, made three of them in the final five minutes. First, he denied Eddie Mercer's effort, and the immediate followup from Jacob Papanicolaou, then kept out a shot from Jacob Blueglass.
Erik Ljunglof wrapped up the win for the Panthers with 20 seconds remaining, tapping in a pass from Nick Rutherford as the Panthers hit KSC on the counter attack.
Keller made seven saves while playing the first 75 minutes; Justin Carnevale finished out the final 15 minutes and did not make a stop.
KSC returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Western New England University on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. Plymouth State hosts Lyndon State on September 29 at 4 p.m.
