Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Visiting Springfield College scored three times in each half on their way to a 6-1 win over Keene State College in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex.
The visitors improve to 2-0, while Keene State drops to 0-2.
It was the Owls who had the first legitimate scoring opportunity, as Eddie Mercer's shot from the top of the area was pushed onto the crossbar by Springfield goalie Billy Schmid in the ninth minute.
Schmid again came up big for the visitors, getting down to stop a free kick from Cam Rogers, and making a diving stop on Jacob Chiza.
Springfield got on the board in the 22nd minute, as Luke Alvaro played a ball over the top of the defense, which bounced over the head of KSC goalie Mark Keller, and Connor Archambault pounced to score into an empty net.
91 seconds later, the Pride doubled their lead, as Alvaro again set up Archambault, who thundered home an effort from 20 yards out past Keller.
It was 3-0 in the 34th minute, as Tim Wood slid home from Alex Haji's pass.
The Pride added three more goalis in the second half, with Danny Murphy scoring in the 65th minute. Marlon Cameron added another in the 79th, and Nick Fontana scored on an unassisted effort in the 80th.
KSC broke up the shutout with seven minutes to go, when the Owls were awarded a penalty kick. Jacob Blueglass converted from the spot for his first career goal.
Keller started and made two stops for Keene State. Justin Carnevale made his collegiate debut, playing the second half. For the Pride, Schmid played 57:31 and made three saves. Zach Richard played the final 32:29 and also made three saves.
KSC will be on the road on Wednesday night, traveling to MIT for a 7 p.m. start. Springfield is off until next Saturday, when they host Westfield State, at 11 a.m.
