Men's Soccer Drops Decision To UMass Dartmouth, 1-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Keene State men's soccer program was unable to erase an early second-half deficit in a Little East Conference (LEC) game against UMass Dartmouth on Saturday evening at Cressy Field, as the Owls fell to the Corsairs, 1-0.

Tale of the Tape 

  • The Corsairs narrowly edged the Owls in shots, 8-7, while each team earned five corner kicks apiece. 
  • The Owls' goalkeeper Jason Smith picked up five saves, while his counterpart Luis Carranzo stopped two. 

Game Highlights

  • Keene State started off the stanza strong, with four shots in the first 10 minutes, capped off with a header shot from Dale Dubinsky in the ninth minute that was saved by Carranzo. 
  • Both teams earned quality goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, but neither side was able to capitalize going into halftime. 
  • The lone goal in the match came in the 53rd minute, as Matt Vidal used his back heel to feed Stephen Teixeira on the left side. Teixeira then sent a cross to Austin Dias in the box, who placed the ball in the back of the net.
  • The Owls had a chance to even the score in the 86th minute and force the game into overtime, when Riley Steele fired a shot on frame off of a corner kick from LJ Luster, but Carranzo was there keep Keene State off the board.
