Owls Drop Florida Finale To Suffolk, 6-4

Box Score

AUBURNDALE, Fla.--A late Keene State College rally fell just short in a 6-4 loss to Suffolk University on Saturday at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Records

  • Keene State: 7-5
  • Suffolk: 8-3

Up Next

  • Keene State resumes the 2016 season in New England on Thursday, when the Owls are slated to host Babson at 3:30 p.m.
  • The Rams are slated to be at Bridgewater State on March 22.

Tale of the Tape

  • Joey Libby was 3-for-5, while Billy Hartmann and Devin Springfield both had two hits and an RBI.  The Owls left eight runners on and committed three errors.
  • Alan Schiff pitched 6.1 innings of relief, striking out four, and Eddie Dionne added two more innings of relief, allowing one unearned run with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Suffolk got a pair of hits and two RBI off the bat of Kevin Sinatra.  Kevin Belskie picked up the win with five innings of work.

How It Happened

  • The Rams jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first.  Jon Lapolla had an RBI single and eventually scored on a passed ball.  Belskie made it 4-0 with a 2-RBI single.
  • Keene State got on the board in the bottom half of the inning when Billy Hartmann was hit by a pitch and moved to third on Christian Bourgea's single.  Devin Springfield plated Hartmann with his 11th RBI of the year.
  • Trevor Lee had an RBI double in the second inning to restore the Rams' four run lead.
  • The Owls began to chip away, as Hartmann doubled in Libby to make it 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth.  KSC closed within one in the eighth inning on Daniel Sarah's sacrifice fly and a Suffolk error.
  • Suffolk closer Cal Carroll ended the inning when Struthers got caught in a rundown, and after the Rams added an insurance run in the ninth, Carroll set the Owls down in order to end the game.
