Men's Soccer Continues Hot Start With Win Over Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Keene State men's soccer program earned its fourth-consecutive victory on Wednesday evening at Spartan Stadium, as the Owls defeated Castleton, 2-0.

  • The two teams hold an overall series of 21-2-1, as Keene State holds the dominating lead over Castleton.
  • First-year Glenn Smith earned Little East Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference honors this past week. 
  • Both teams ended with 13 total shots, while the Owls held a slight edge, 4-2, in corner kicks over the Spartans. 
  • Jason Smith collected two saves for the win, while Aaron Parker stopped five in the loss. 

First Half Highlights 

  • In the seventh minute, Conor Leahy opened scoring after collecting a cross from Aidan Dean and hitting it into the right side of the net. 
  • The Spartans had two consecutive chances in the 34th and 35th, but a wide shot and a blocked shot proved not enough to get on the board.
  • Two chances by Promise Kpee in the 17th and 36th minute forced Parker to save the shots, keeping the Owls up by one going into halftime. 

Second Half Highlights

  • The half began with attempts from both sides, but neither team could find the back of the net. 
  • Beginning in the 74th minute, Castleton pushed to tie the game with five shots in ten minutes, but the attack remained unsuccessful due to the efforts by the Keene State defensive line and Smith. 
  • A late unassisted goal by Kpee sealed the win for the Owls in the 88th minute.
