Early Start Lifts Springfield Past Men's Soccer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Keene State men's soccer program fell to Springfield, 4-0, in a non-conference game on Sunday at Brock-Affleck Field.

Tale of the Tape

  • The Pride narrowly edged the Owls in shots, 15-13, but the two teams each had five corner kicks apiece. 
  • Keene State's Jason Smith made four saves on the contest and Patrick Wheelan finished with one stop between the pipes, as Springfield's Zach Richard picked up seven saves. 

First Half Highlights 

  • The Pride's first goal of the game came in the ninth minute, as Douglas Enga capatlized on a pently kick that was awarded to Springfield. 
  • Just over two minutes later, the Pride doubled its lead, when a cross from Danny Murphy found the head of Christian Schneider, who found the back of the net. 
  • Hunter DeCarolis attempted to get the Owls on the board with a header shot in the the 26th minute, but Richard was there to pick up the save.
  • The remaining minutes of the half produced back-and-forth play, but the Pride scored once more in the 45th minute, to bring their lead to three going into the half, off a goal from Cam Powell, sent into the box by Xavi Arroyo and passed by Brad Deckel.

Second Half Highlights 

  • Springfield registered its fourth and final goal in the 59th minute, as Schneider fed the pass to Luke Alvaro who one-touched the ball into the back of the net. 
  • Keene State's best chance on the half came in the 72nd minute from the feet of Promise Kpee, as he fired a shot towards a diving Richard who blocked the shot and forced a corner kick, yet the remaining minutes were not enough for the Owls to get past the Pride.
