Women's Soccer Suffers Setback Against Middlebury, 1-0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Keene State women's soccer program was unable to find the back of the net, as the Owls suffered a 1-0 loss to Middlebury on Wednesday at Dragone Field.

Tale of the Tape 

  • Keene State and Middlebury have an all-time series of 3-15-3, as the Panthers hold the edge over the Owls. 
  • The Panthers held the Owls to only seven shots and produced 17 of their own. This is only the second game of the season that Keene State has been outshot by its opponent. 
  • For the Owls, Danielle Warhall collected nine saves on the contest. For the Panthers, Kate Reinmuth picked up one and Ursula Alwang stopped three. 

First Half Highlights 

  • The Panthers earned a scoring opportunity early in the 16th minute, as Katherine Hobbs fired a low shot in the box that Warhall made a diving save on.
  • The best chance of the half for the Owls came from the feet of Taylor Farland with five minutes remaining on the clock, as her shot bounced off the cross bar, keeping the scoreboard blank. 
  • Amy Martin scored the lone goal of the contest in the 41st minute, placing her shot right below the cross bar and into the back of the net. 

Second Half Highlights 

  • In the 58th minute, Farland found some shooting space and fired a hard low shot that was corralled by Panther keeper Alwang. 
  • Middlebury had a chance to increase their lead to two in the 70th minute, but Emma Shumway's shot went wide. 
  • A goal-scoring attempt by Patricia Norton in the opening seconds of the 85th minute looked to even the score, but Alwang was there to collect the ball.
