Keene State Cruises Past Fitchburg State in Season Opener

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State men's soccer program began the 2016 season with a 5-0 non-conference win over Fitchburg State at the Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Tale of the Tape 

  • Keene State controlled the scoresheet, as the Owls outshot Fitchburg State 18-2 overall, with 12 of the 18 shots placed on goal.  
  • The Owls held a 14-2 advantage in corner kicks, with two services resulting in goals. 
  • The strong offensive showing was shared amongst Keene State, as four different players netted goals. 
  • Samuel Binogono led the Owls with two goals, while LJ Luster added two assists.  

First Half Highlights 

  • Keene State dominated from the beginning, as Aidan Dean netted the first goal early in the 7th minute, striking a backpass from Conor Leahy in front of the net. 
  • The Owls continued to put on the pressure with a header attempt from Leahy and a shot from Glenn Smith, but both were saved by Connor Smith. 
  • Keene State did not get on the board again before the 43rd minute, as Luck Ndahigwa connected with Samuel Binogono to seal the deal and carry the Owls into halftime with a 2-0 lead. 

Second Half Highlights 

  • A corner kick serve from Riley Steele early in the second half found its way to the feet of Leahy and into the back of the net, as the Owls increased their lead to three in the 48th minute. 
  • Nicolas Masley had a chance to decrease the gap for the Falcons in the 53rd minute, but the shot was easily handeled by Jason Smith. 
  • In the 73rd minute, Cole Acocelli capitalized on a bobbled ball in front of the net, off of a corner kick from Luster to bring the score to 4-0, Keene. 
  • The final tally for the Owls came in the 81st minute, as Binogono converted a feed from Luster.
