How It Happened

The Owls took an early lead in the game, when sophomore forward Jordyn Abasciano drove a low line drive into the back of the cage. The forward corralled the through ball from classmate Sarah Carron, and buried the shot to give a 1-0 edge for Keene State in the 24th minute. Western England nearly tied the match with just under four minutes before halftime as Allison Bruehwiler had a breakway, which was foiled by a diving stop by second-year goalkeeper Shelby Offord

The Golden Bears responded in the 60th minute, as Morgan Smith fired a rebound over the out stretched arm of Keene keeper Abbie Terrica to even the score. Both teams exchanged chances for the remaining of regulation and the first overtime period. WNEU was able to end the game early in the second OT period as Smith was able to complete the cross thorugh the box and found the head of freshman Authumn Hathaway who sent it into the bottom corner of the net.
