How It Happened
In a game with a paucity of chances, the Owls had the first one when
Denis Fleming struck the base of the post with a free kick in the opening moments of the game.
Chances were still slow in coming, but Owls' starting goalie
Anthony Pasciuto made a key stop on James Petrella's effort in the 44th minute to keep the game scoreless at the break.
Howard came on in net to play the second half, and was immediately called into action when the Owls were whistled for a foul in the box. Sa-Leem Kamarah stepped up for the Anchormen, but as he did earlier this year against Castleton, Howard guessed the right way to stonewall the penalty.
Howard was called into action again in 64th minute, making a stop on Edward Pereira, and again on Brandon Ramos in the 86th minute.
In the first overtime, Fleming was stifled by RIC goalie Charlie Tashjian in the 100th minute, and Tashjian made another stop on
Caleb Harmon in the 106th minute to keep the game scoreless.
Prior to the game, the Owls honored their 11 seniors; Howard, Pasciuto, Bates,
Benny Tamzarian,
Gavin Fitzpatrick,
Mario Santos,
Glaudi Bangasimbo,
Clinton Mungeta,
Yusufu Juma,
Henry Cummings, and
Ethan Rose.
Playoff Permutations
- The Owls were already locked in to the No. 5 seed in next week's LEC tournament. An RIC victory would have moved the Anchormen into the No. 3 seed, and would have had the Owls playing against Western Connecticut.
Up Next
- The result today sets up a rematch with the Anchormen on Nov. 2 in the quarterfinal round.
