PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Athletes from the Keene State men's basketball and track and field teams received weekly honors from the LEC, it was announced today.
Men's Basketball
Sophomore
Octavio Brito (Lincoln, R.I.) was named the LEC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Brito was a scoring machine last week, tying, then resetting a career high in points. In the first game of the week against Albertus Magnus, he netted 32 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including 7-of-12 from three, with seven rebounds in an 82-71. He followed that up with a new career high of 37 points on 12-for-19 shooting, making 6-of-10 from three and all seven of his free throws in the conference opening 83-70 win against Southern Maine. Brito and the 14th ranked Owls (8-0) will look to continue their perfect start to the season when they host Plymouth State on December 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Women's Track and Field
Senior
Shannon Parks (Reading, Mass.) was named the LEC Field Athlete of the Week. In the season opening Mary Grinaker Invitational at Smith College, Parks won both the shot put and weight throw events, taking the shot at 12.45 meters, and the weight at 13.69 meters. Parks and the Owls are off until January 14, when competition resumes at the Tufts Invitational.
Men's Track and Field
Freshman
Charles Sette (Windham, N.H.) was named the LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week. At the Mary Grinaker Invitational, Sette was second in the 1,000 meters in 3:00:45. Sette and the rest of the Owls will pick up the season at the Tufts Invitational on January 14.
