Six Owls Earn LEC Awards from 2025 Women's Lacrosse Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference recently announced their postseason awards for the 2025 season and five Owls earned All-LEC team selections

Tess Brown, a junior midfielder from Londonderry, N.H., was named to the First Team All-LEC for the second year in a row following another dominant season for KSC on both sides of the field. On the attack, Brown placed top 10 in the LEC in points (68), goals (49), and assists (19), as she led the Owls in all three categories on the season. Brown also led the Owls on free position goals as her 15 across the year are the second most in program history as she now sits tied for the fifth most in program history. On the other side of the field, Brown led the LEC in caused turnovers with 60 across the season, which is the fourth most in a single season in program history, while averaging 3.33 per game. Brown also led the conference in ground balls with 66, the sixth most in a season in KSC program history. Her 62 draw controls also placed her among the top 10 in the conference and second to only Lola Varricchione on the team across the season. Brown's best game of the season came against Vermont State Castleton University as she scored nine goals on just 10 shots, which was the most goals scored in the LEC in a single game on the season and tying the KSC program record for goals in a game. Brown finishes her junior season in 11th place all-time in program history in both points (182) and goals (129), as she became the 21st member in program history to surpass the 100-career goal mark this season. Her 223 career ground balls are the third most in program history and 29 away from surpassing her former teammate Haile Ratajack for the program record, while her 185 caused turnovers are the second most in program history, 36 away from passing Ratajack.

Lola Smith, a senior midfielder from West Hartford, Conn., was selected to the Second Team All-LEC from her impressive senior year for the Owls. After transitioning to midfield from attack for her senior season, Smith recorded 49 points for the third most on the team coming from 37 goals and 12 assists. Smith also tallied a pair of eventual game-winner goals over the season, coming in back-to back games for KSC over the University of Hartford (3/12/25) and the University of Massachusetts-Boston (3/15/25). Smith's best game of the season came against Worcester State University (4/1/25) as she took 10 shots and scored seven goals for the Owls in part of KSC's 13-8 win for a career high day. Her 35 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers were both the fourth most on the team for the year, while her 30 draw controls were the fifth most. After surpassing the 100-career point mark earlier in the season, Smith finishes her career with 114 points from 72 goals and 42 assists.

Lola Varricchione, a freshman midfielder from Mansfield, Mass., was the only true freshman to be named to an All-LEC team this season as she was selected to the Second Team All-LEC for her first season as an Owl. On the attack, Varricchione scored 33 goals and added 14 assists for 47 points. Varricchione scored four game-winning goals for KSC over the year including in the first two games of the season. Her 14 free position goals on the year are the third most in a single season in program history for KSC, while her 68 draw controls are the most on the team, top 10 in the conference across the season, and tied for the tenth most in a season in program history. Varricchione excelled on the defensive side in her freshman season too as she collected 48 ground balls, which was top 10 in the LEC, and her 28 caused turnovers were top five in the LEC. Varricchione's best game of the season came in her second career collegiate game as she scored an eventual season-high five points from four goals and an assist in KSC's 16-13 win over Norwich University (2/28/25).

Riley Devine, a junior defender from Salem, N.H., was named to the Second Team All-LEC from her performance for the Owls over her third season with the team. Devine finished third for most caused turnovers and ground balls on the team with 25 and 43 respectively, both of which are tied for the 10th most in their respective categories. Having nine points across her first two seasons as an Owl, Devine matched the mark in her junior season as she scored seven goals and added two assists, as she started to excel on clears for KSC. Devine logged a pair of goals in a contest twice, including her season-high of three points from two goals and an assist against Western Connecticut State University (4/4/25).

Mabelle Bessette, a junior goalkeeper from Belchertown, Mass., anchored the Owls defense in net over the season and earned Second Team All-LEC recognition. Bessette improved on her first season in goal in 2024 as she increased her save percentage by nearly 10% compared to the previous season. Bessette made 120 saves across the season for 7.06 saves per game, both the fourth best marks in the conference, along with the second-best save percentage on the season as she saved 50.2% of the shots that she faced. Bessette had 17 saves in net against Plymouth State University (4/23/25), which was the most saves in a game on the season in the LEC and a season-best 60.7 save percentage (minimum 10 shots faced). Bessette also recorded a pair of 14-save contests, tying for the fourth most in a game on the year against Eastern Connecticut State University (4/9/25) and Bridgewater State University (4/26/25).

Carlie Jamieson, a senior defender from Attleboro, Mass., was named to the LEC Sportsmanship Team to round out the awards for the 2025 season for KSC. "Carlie has shown time and time again through her kindness and love for the game that she is a great example of our culture" said Owls' Head Coach Travis Wyant. "She treats her opponents with respect and holds her teammates accountable to do the same. She is a prime example of what we want our athletes to be on and off the field."
