WESTFIELD, Mass. – Senior Madi Mousley shot a team-best 88 as KSC placed all five scorers within nine strokes of each other as they competed at the Westfield State University Fall Invitational on Sunday at the Tekoa Country Club.
The Owls finished with a team score of 364, missing out on tying their season-low of 363 from the USM Invitational by just one stroke with two fall events remaining – next weekend at the NEIGA Championship on Cape Cod and the following weekend right back at Tekoa for the Little East Conference championship.
Mousley recorded four pars, shooting a 44 on both the front and back nine, while
Abby Weiterman had four pars (three on the back nine) in her round of 90.
Sadie Murray added a 91 while
Mackenzie Hagearty had a 95 including a birdie on No. 11.
Ruby Dasaro, playing among the Owls' five, had four pars (three on the back nine) finished with a 97 while
Marley Ducharme, playing as an individual, shot a 104.
Thanks to four birdies and an individual medalist score of 78 from Caroline Goderre, Eastern Connecticut State University won the event with a 362 as a team. Goderre had an impressive 37 (+2) on the back nine that included six pars and a birdie to help lock down her team's victory, with Daria Fournier shooting an 89 and Grace Rose a 91.
Westfield State (407) and Lasell University (471) rounded out the four-team field.
"It was a good day, our scores are getting better as a team," said KSC head coach
Jeff Timmer. "We know what we have to work on the next couple of weeks before the championship and we are looking forward to getting better."
The NEIGA Championship will take place at the Captains Golf Course next weekend in Brewster, Mass. Last year at the event, Keene State placed fifth of ten teams and had a two-day score of 755, shooting a 384 on the first day and 371 on the second day. Bates College won the event last year on the women's side by shooting a combined 631.
