BREWSTER, Mass. – Senior Madi Mousley finished 11th individually and
Abby Weiterman 17th to each earn All-Tournament honors as the Keene State College women's golf team finished third out of ten teams at the 2026 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championship in its 10th anniversary event on Saturday and Sunday at The Captains Golf Course on Cape Cod.
After the Owls sat in fourth as a team following the first round, carding a combined 395 on Saturday, they improved by four strokes and were just five shots away from having the second-best team round on Sunday, ultimately moving past and beating fellow Little East Conference member Eastern Connecticut State University in the final event before the second-ever league championship next weekend in Westfield, Mass. KSC trailed the Warriors by 12 strokes after the opening 18 holes but were 23 shots better than ECSU today to move into third, combining for a two-day total of 786 (395+391). Bates College, a top 50 team in the country, posted an impressive 318 as a team on Saturday and cruised to a win, recording a 337 today for a two-day total of 655. Second-place Nichols College compiled a 773 (386+387) to edge the Owls, who placed fifth in a 10-team field at the same event last year.
Individually, Mousley led the Owls with a team championship-best round of 88 today in a round that included six pars – four on the back nine – to move up a spot on the leaderboard. Weiterman finished with four pars while shooting a 96 and moved up three slots to reach All-Tournament recognition among the 55-golfer field.
Marley Ducharme and
Sadie Murray also combined for seven pars in the second round to aid the Owls' effort. Ultimately, one could make a case that one double-digit hole for the Owls proved to be nearly all that separated them from a runner-up team finish on the weekend, with six of the Owls' 13-shot deficit forming on No. 14 today.
Isabelle Meltzer shot a 77 on a Saturday, including carding 11 pars and a birdie, and staved off Eastern Connecticut's Caroline Goderre to win the event by four shots. The leading duo entered the day tied, with Goderre shooting a two-under 34 on the first nine holes of her championship before struggling on the back nine to allow Meltzer to tie. The two were neck-and-neck most of today before the final three holes helped decide the medalist.
Mousley and Weiterman saved their strongest push for late, with the duo shooting a 42 and 46 on the back nine to help key KSC's surge past Eastern, who had two scores 60 and above on the back nine today.
After shooting a 939 at the NEIGA Championship in their inaugural season in 2022 and not recording a team score the following year, the Owls finished with a 824 and 755 in the ensuing two years – moving from eighth to fifth in the team standings, and now third.
"We survived a six-plus hour round," said KSC head coach
Jeff Timmer. "It was a very long day, proud of the women for finishing."
The Owls, defending conference champions in the inaugural event last fall, will aim to defend their title this season when the LEC championship begins next Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Westfield State University will host the event at the Tekoa Country Club, where KSC shot a 364 eight days ago in a single-day invitational that came down to the wire between the Owls and Eastern Connecticut.
Note: The Keene State College men's golf trip to the Vermont State University Castleton Invitational hosted at the Quechee Club was postponed due to forecasted cold temperatures. The event's make-up date is to be determined, with the possibility it will be held in the spring.
