PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three Keene State College student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference for their achievements accomplished for the week of 9/21-9/27.
Field Hockey
Senior defender
Elyse Picard (Southington, Conn.) was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week from her performance over KSC's 2-0 week of action. In KSC's 3-2 shootout victory over Smith College on Wednesday night, Picard logged a defensive save in the first overtime period to keep the game knotted at two apiece, saving the contest for the moment before KSC's eventual victory. In the Owls' 4-3 win over Thomas College (Maine) Picard scored KSC's second goal of the game and assisted on the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter for her third point of the contest.
Freshman goalkeeper
Tori Kelly (Castleton, Vt.) was named the LEC Goalkeeper of the Week and the LEC Rookie of the Week from her performance in goal for KSC in the Owls' 2-0 week. In the Owls' victory over Smith, Kelly recorded a career-high 11 saves, with seven saves coming across the 20 minutes of sudden death overtime action to go with forcing Smith to miss four of their five penalty shots at the end of the contest for the win. Kelly followed up her win over Smith with five saves in net in KSC's victory over Thomas.
Picard, Kelly, and the Owls return to action on the road against Endicott College on Wednesday, September 30, at 7:00 PM.
Volleyball
Freshman
Bella Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) was named the LEC Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, while also taking home the LEC Defensive Player of the Week selection from her performance in the Owls' two matches over the week. Across the week Bacon recorded 32 kills to go with 37 digs, five assists, five aces, and four blocks. In KSC's win over Colby-Sawyer College Bacon recorded a new career-high with 12 kills, tying the game-high, to go with another career-best and game-high of four aces and a team-high 16 digs in the victory. The Owls moved to 1-0 in LEC play with the win over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday as Bacon led the way besting her career-high again with a game-high 20 kills, hitting .300, while recording 21 digs, a new career-high and tying for the team-high in the victory for KSC.
Bacon and the Owls return to action on Monday, September 28, at 6:00 PM, as the Owls travel to take on Bridgewater State University.
