'KEENE, N.H. 10/14/03 - The Keene State College field hockey
team lead the offensive attack with three unanswered goals in the
first half to defeat New England College 6-2 at Owl Athletic
Complex on Tuesday night.
Keene State improves to a 9-5 record, while New England falls to
8-4 overall.
The Owls scored the first three goals. Henley put KSC up
1-0 at 2:06 into the half on an unassisted play. Less than 12
minutes later, Henley netted her second goal of the night and fifth
of the season. Michelle McInerney (Hampton, N.H.) had an
assist on the play.
Katy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.) with an assist by Tanya Strong
(Hatfield, Mass.) gave KSC a 3-0 lead.
NEC got on the board after a penalty stroke by Lindsey Inman
(Webster, N.H.) 19:21 into the game.
The Pilgrims celebration was short-lived for Strong, with an
assist from McInerney, scored the Owls' fourth goal of the game and
Strong's team-leading 14th of the season.
Following halftime, Kerrin Delaney (Centerville, Mass.) scored
her first goal of the season with an assist from
Strong.
KSC lead 4-1 until Kelly Perrow (Readfield, Maine) netted the
Pilgrims second and final goal of the night at 53:54.
The Owls added the decisive goal and ended the offensive attack
when McInerney shot the ball in the net with a little over nine
minutes left in the game.
Michelle Codding (Jericho, VT) and Catlin Baril (Canton, Mass.)
split time in goal for KSC each having only one save.
Cassandra Hudson (Montpelier, VT) finished with 16 saves for
NEC.
KSC had a 38-6 shot advantage in the game.
KSC travels to Trinity College on Thursday (6:30 p.m.).
