ECAC: Owls Advance with 5-2 Win over Clark

'KEENE, N.H. 11/15/03 - Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) had two goals and an assist to lead the top-seeded Keene State College field hockey team to a 5-2 semifinal victory over fifth-seed Clark University on Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.

The Owls, who were defeated 2-0 by Clark in last year's semifinal round, improve to 18-6, while the Cougars fall to 12-8.  Keene State will face second-seed Springfield College in the Championship game on Sunday (1 p.m.).  Springfield College defeated third seed Babson College 1-0 in another semifinal round match.

Senior Kate Barnowski (Granville, Mass.) opened up the scoring at 11:14 into the game with a goal off a penalty corner for her fourth goal of the season.  Tanya Strong (Hatfield, Mass.) got an assist on the play.

Transitioning from a Clark penalty corner, the Owls outnumbered the Cougars down the stretch and Henley netted her first goal of the game when she fired in a shot from Amanda Rosenbeck (Wilder, VT) at 15:40.

Clark's best opportunity to score in the first half came off a bouncer shot by junior midfielder Ashley Perez (Worcester, Mass.). The shot rebounded on KSC goalie Catilin Baril (Canton, Mass.) for the save.

Two minutes into the second half, senior back Nichole Dallas (Marlow, N.H.) scored on a penalty stroke to increase the lead to 3-0.

Henley scored for the second time at 27:12 for her eleventh goal of the season.  Michelle McInerney (Hampton, N.H.) got an assist on the play.

The Cougars tried to rally from the 4-0 deficit with consecutive goals from Jessica Petitt (Hatfield, Mass.) at 25:03 and 15:08.

But the Owls finished big with a goal from Strong, her team-leading 29th, to make it a 5-2 final.

Baril finished with four saves before Michelle Codding (Jericho, VT) replaced her at 18:32 in the second half.  Codding made one save.  Kaitlin Kelley (Guilford, Conn.) turned aside two shots for Clark.
