EENE, N.H. 10/16/03 - Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) scored two
goals, including the game-winner with six minutes remaining in the
game, to lead the Keene State College field hockey team to a 3-2
victory over Little East/Alliance foe Worcester State College on
Parent/Family Weekend at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
It was the first win by KSC (7-6, 5-1 LEC) on its new turf field
while WSC falls to (8-5, 5-3 LEC). Prior to the start of the game,
a representative from the KSC field hockey and men's and women's
lacrosse teams, took a shot into their respective goals in a
ceremony to mark the opening of the new field. Katy Pokrywka
(Roxbury, Conn.), who leads the team in points with 13, opened the
scoring four minutes into the game on a pass from twin sister Amy
Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.). Henley made it 2-0 when she fired in a
shot from Steph Georgivits (Concord, N.H.) at the 18 minute mark in
the first half. The Owls led 2-0 at the break. The Lancers rallied
to tie the game with goals from Andrea McAllister (Leominster,
Mass.) and Ann Clark (Worcester, Mass.) just six minutes apart in
the second half.
Henley netted the game-winner following a flurry of action
around the net to seal the victory. Georgevits got an assist on the
play. KSC goalie Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) finished with five
saves to earn the victory for the Owls, while WSC's Nichole Gomes
(Harwich, Mass.) turned aside four shots. Keene State will host
Framingham State College for a Little East/Alliance match on Monday
(6:30 p.m.).
