KEENE, N.H. 10/18/04 - Katy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.) and
Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) had two goals and two assists each to
lead Keene State College to a 6-3 victory over Framingham State in
Little East Conference field hockey action at Owl Athletic Complex
on Monday night. It was the highest goal output by the Owls, who
are now tied with Fitchburg State for the lead in the LEC.
Winners of six out of their last seven games, the Owls improve
to 8-6 (6-1 LEC) while Framingham State (6-4, 3-3 LEC) saw its four
game winning streak come to an end. Keene State jumped out to a 4-0
halftime lead. Nichole Garneau (Carroll, N.H.) put in a rebound for
her sixth goal of the season and Pokrywka fired home a crossing
pass less than two minutes later to give KSC a 2-0 lead just over
four minutes into the game. Marrissa Boccaccio (West Hartford,
Conn.) and Pokrywka, with her second of the game and sixth of the
year, capped off the first half scoring. It was Boccaccio's first
career goal. In the second half,Henley added a pair of KSC goals
and Ashley Flood (Westbrook, Me.), Desiree Rainville (Gardner,
Mass.), and Jennifer Johnson (Uxbridge, Mass.) tallied for the
Rams.
Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) with four saves and Michelle
Codding (Jericho, Vt.)with one save, saw action in goal for Keene
State. Christina Sullivan (Norwood, Mass.) and Lindsay McKearney
(N. Attleboro, Mass.), both finishing with five saves, split the
goaltending for FSC.
KSC hosts Westfield State in a key conference game on Wednesday
(6:30 p.m.).
