KEENE, N.H. 11/1/04 - Both Keene State College men's and women's
swim/dive teams came up short in their first home meet of the
season against Brandeis University on Saturday.
The Brandeis men edged KSC 161.5 - 109.5 while the Brandeis
women prevailed 168-123. It was the initial home meet for
first-year coach Al Rozzi. "It was good to get my feet wet with the
first home meet," said Rozzi. "The meet ran very smoothly. Several
of the returning swimmers are already closing in on their best
times from last season."
The Keene State men had six first place finishes in the meet.
Zach Hastings (Weston, Mass.) swept both one-meter (213.65 points)
and three-meter (231.65) diving events. Adam Van Brandenburg
(Tenafly, N.J.) captured the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.24) and the
100-yard individual medley (1:01.07). John West (West Hartford,
Conn.) posted a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.02). The Owl
200-yard freestyle relay team of Nate Ware (Rocky Hill, Conn.),
Kyle Urichio (Enfield, Conn.), Jim McClain (Brookline, Mass.) and
West had a winning time of 1:39.15.
The Owl women's team was led by Cathy Sue Klein. The senior from
Middlesex, N.J., won the 100-yard freestyle (58.71) and the 500
freestyle (5:50.38) and joined teammates Karly Smith (Concord,
N.H.), Katlin Pryor (Jaffrey, N.H.), and Devon Trabilsy
(Hillsborough, N.J.) to claim first in the 400-yard medley relay
(4:22.23). Freshman Shannon McSpiritt (Londonderry, N.H.) took
first in the 100-yard individual medley (1:12.09), and the 200-yard
freestyle team of Kathleen O'Keefe (Wakefield, Mass.), Laura Cuomo
(Hamden, Conn.), Liesel Dolce (Jamestown, R.I.) and Smith had the
winning time of 1:54.49.
The KSC women's team will compete at the Wellesley College
relays on Saturday (1 p.m.).
