KEENE, N.H. 1/19/05- Keene State College took first place in 10
out of 16 events Wednesday evening and posted a 144-115 victory
over rival Plymouth State University in a women's swimming and
diving meet held at Spaulding Gym Pool.
It marked the Owls eighth straight victory over the Panthers in
the pool. Keene State improves to 5-1 with the win while PSU falls
to 1-5.
The Owls were led by freshmen Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls,
Mass.) and Darcie Gauthier (Claremont, N.H.). Yankowski captured
wins in the 50 (26.28) and 100-yard freestyle (58.01) races while
Gauthier prevailed in the 100 (1:14.84) and 200-yard breastroke
(2:45.74) events. Yankowski also teamed up with Karly Smith
(Concord, N.H.), Katlin Pryor (Jaffrey, N.H.), and Devon Trabilsy
(Hillsborough, N.J.) to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:01.85).
Keene State's other individual winners were Cathy Sue Klein
(Middlesex, N.J.) in the 200 freestyle (2:07.27), Molly Clyborne
(Severna Park, MD) in the 200 butterfly (3:03.34), Trabilsy in the
1,000 freestyle (12:00.34), Pryor in the 500 freestyle (5:31.83),
and Andria Titko (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in one meter diving
(181.50 points).
Sophomore Cait Anton (Woolwich, Me.) provided the meet highlight
for Plymouth State with her wins in the 100 (1:05.83) and 200-yard
backstroke (2:34.43), and 200 individual medley ( 2:27.15) races.
Other PSU wins came from Danielle Destephano (Centerville, Mass.)
in three-meter diving (199.10 points) and Kristen Mulcahey
(Pawtucket, R.I. in the 100 butterfly (1:19.06).
The KSC women travel to Eastern Conn. on Saturday while the
Panthers return home to host St. Joseph's (Conn.).
