Middlebury Snaps Owls' five game winning streak

 KEENE, N.H. 10/14/08 - The Keene State field hockey team dropped a 4-0 non-conference game to No. 7 ranked Middlebury College at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.

The loss snapped Keene State's (11-4) five game winning streak.  Middlebury, which had lost two out of its last three games, improves to 8-2.  

Sophomore forward Chase Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) and junior forward Heather McCormack (Rowley, Mass.) netted two goals each for the Panthers.

Delano scored an unassisted goal at the 22:43 mark of the first half and McCormack finished off a feed from senior forward Marnie Rowe (Harwich, Mass.) to stake Middlebury to a 2-0 lead at the break.

Delano got her second of the game, and team-leading 17th of the season at the 42:05 mark of the second half.  Junior midfielder Mullery Doar (Winnetka, Ill.) got an assist on the play.  McCormack capped the scoring with her second goal of the game and eighth of the season seven minutes later with senior Lindsey McBride (Old Greenwich, Conn.) drawing an assist.

The Owls were without junior All-America Erin Dallas (Marlow, N.H.) who missed the game with a knee injury. 

Middlebury controlled play throughout the game and held a 27-3 advantage in shots and led 10-3 in penalty corners.

KSC junior goalie Vikki Stoessel (Derry, N.H.) finished the game with a season high 14 saves.  KSC senior back Alyssa Rowell (Queensbury, N.Y., this week's LEC defensive player of the week and womenfieldhockey.com Division III player of the week, had four defensive saves in the game.

Senior Caitlin Pentifallo (River Edge, N.J.) played the first 61:20 for Middlebury and stopped two shots.  Freshman Becca Shaw finished the game and didn't record a save.

Both teams return to conference play on Saturday.  Keene State hosts Worcester State (1 p.m.) and Middlebury is back home to face Bates (11 a.m.).
