KEENE, N.H. 10/25/08 - There were mixed results for Keene
State swim teams in their opening season meet against Brandeis
University on Saturday. The KSC men won 172-122 while
the Owl women lost to the Judges 174-122.
The Keene men won 12 events to post the victory. Four Owls
were double-winners. Sophomore Karl Balinski
(Waterford, Conn.) won the 50 free (23.05) and the 100 free
(50.57), freshman Colin Daly (Cromwell, Conn.) won
the 100 back (57.42) and the 200 back (2:07.36), junior
Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.) won the 100 breast
(1:00.49) and the 200 breast (2:24.27), and sophomore Tim
Thornton (Fairfield, Conn.) won both one-meter (227.05
points) and three-meter (227.50 points) diving events.
Sophomore Dan Theleen (Southbury, Conn.) won
the 500 free (4:57.18) and sophomore Dan Morse
(Hope, R.I.) won the 1,000 free (10:23.59).
The team of sophomore Connor Pennoyer (Norwalk,
Conn.), Daly, Rose, and Balinski combined to win the 200 medley
relay (1:41.99).
In the women's competition, junior Jackie
Foster (Bedford, N.H.) won the 50 free (26.33), freshman
Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) won the 100
breast (1:11.64) and sophomore Rachel Battis
(Beacon Falls, Conn.) won the one-meter diving event (172.65
points).
Juniors Kristine Trutor (Holden, Mass.), Alea
Paddock (Newbury, N.H.), and Foster, and freshman
Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) teamed up to win
the 200 medley relay (1:56.64).
The Owls are right back in the pool on Sunday, competing at the
Bentley College Invitational in Waltham, Mass.
