NORTON, MASS. 11/22/08- Junior Kristine
Trutor (Holden, Mass.) won three races for Keene State in
a tri meet with Springfield College and Wheaton College in Norton,
Mass. on Saturday.
Trutor posted wins in the 100 back (1:00.17), a Wheaton
pool record, the 200 back (2:13.40), and the 100 fly (1:01.60) and
teamed with Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.),
Jill Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.), and Maureen
O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) to win the 200 medley relay
(1:54.15).
Junior Jackie Foster (Bedford, N.H.) had
the other win for the Owls in the 500 free (5:26.12).
In team scoring, Keene State lost to Springfield 175-123
and Wheaton College 156-137.
The Owls record goes to 2-3.
In the men's meet, Keene State (4-3) defeated Wheaton
212-82 and lost to Springfield 176-124.
Freshman Colin Daly (Cromwell, Conn.) and
sophomore Dan Theleen (Southbury, Conn.) had big
days in the pool for the Owls.
Theleen won the 400 I.M. (4:30.82) and the 1,000 free
(10:09.77) and Daly topped the field in the 100 back (55.82) and
the 200 back (2:04.73). Junior Domingo Rose
(Nashua, N.H.) also won the 100 breast (1:00.88) and second in the
200 breast (2:17.10).
"Wheaton and Springfield are tough Division III
competitors with ample experience at the NCAA national level, and a
history of producing All-American swimmers, so we happy to now be
at the level to compete with them," said KSC Coach Jack Fabian.
"The meet was held at Wheaton which made for an exciting venue
and some fast swims. The 8 lane format was a challenge for us
since we are still working on building depth in the program," he
added. For the men's meet, we knew that Springfield would be
tough opponent and they beat us by 52pts. The men easily
handled Wheaton and beat them by 130 points.
On the women's side, they also lost to Springfield by 52
points. We also predicted that Wheaton would beat us by the
same amount. Wheaton did win but the KSC women kept the point
difference to 19 points.
Freshman Colin Daly again shows his former HS
All-American talent by taking 1rst place in the 100 back, 55.82,
and first place in the 200 back (2:04.73)
Freshman Jill Whitaker placed second in the 200
Breaststroke with a fast time of 2:33.92, fourth in the 200
freestyle, 2:02.45, and second in the 50 freestyle (26.04)
Dan Theleen and Dan Morse both
went 10:09 in the 1000 taking 1rst and second. They beat the
nearest competitor by almost half a minute (24 seconds).
Dan Morse posted the best time for a KSC
swimmer this year with (4:56) in the 500 free and placed second,
while Dan Theleen placed third in this event with
a time of 5 minutes and 9 sec.
Jackie Foster won the 500 freestyle
((5:26) Jessica Laidley placed second in the 500
free, with a time of 5:32. Jackie and Jessica were second and
third place in the 1000 yard Freestyle with times of 11:08 and
11:15.
The Owl women compete at the LEC championships at
UMass-Dartmouth on Sat., Dec. 6.
