Owl Women Swim to LEC Championship

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. - Keene State set nine meet and seven Owl records, and established four new pool marks on the ways to capturing the 2008 Little East Conference women's swimming championship at Tripp Center Pool on Saturday.

The Owls, who won all 14 swim races, claimed their third straight and sixth overall LEC title with the victory.  KSC finished with 508 points.  Eastern Conn. was a distant second with 308 points.

"I didn't know they were ready for that type of performance this early in the season," said KSC Coach Jack Fabian.  "Everyone had fantastic swims and showed what they could do."

Keene State was led by Kristine Trutor.  The junior form Holden, Mass. broke Keene State records with her first place finishes in the 100 back (58.24), 200 back (2:08.52), and 100 fly (58.57).  All three were NCAA provisional qualifying times. She also set a record in the 50 back (27.42) as a member of the record-setting winning 200 medley relay (1:49.54) with teammates junior Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.) and freshman Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) and Jill Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.).

O'Leary and Whitaker also set Owl records.  O'Leary's record came in the 200 fly (2:15.71) and Whitaker's mark was in the 100 breast (1:08.50).  O'Leary also took first in the 200 fly (2:15.71) and Whitaker prevailed in the 50 free (24.92) and 200 breast (2:30.74).

Junior Jackie Foster (Bedford, N.H.) was a triple winner, posting victories in the 100 free (56.28) the 200 free (2:00.07), and the 500 free (5:23.09).  Sophomore Jessica Laidley (Brockton, Mass.) won the 1,000 free (11:27.72) and Paddock prevailed in the 400 I.M. (4:49.01).

Seniors Rose Harrington (Orleans, Mass.) and Katie Allenson (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Foster and O'Leary, completed the meet by winning the 400 free relay with a time of 3:52.57.
