WILLIMANTIC, CONN. 1/17/09 - The Keene State women's swim team
captured 11 of 14 races to post a 156-106 Little East Conference
dual meet victory over Eastern Connecticut State University in
Willimantic, Conn. on Saturday.
The Owls (5-4) move on the .500 mark while the Warriors (5-1)
dropped its first meet of the season.
Junior Alea Paddock (Newbury. N.H.), and
freshmen Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) and
Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) were triple
winners for the Owls. Paddock won the 400 I.M. (4:48.06), the 100
breast (1:08.19), and the 500 free (5:30.72). O'Leary won the
100 fly (1:03.98), the 200 fly (2:25.35), and the 200 I.M.
(2:24.95). Whitaker won the 50 free (26.23), the 100 free (55.29),
and the 200 breast (2:30.76).
Paddock set the first team record of 2009 in her 100
breaststroke race. Alea reclaimed the record from her
teammate Whitaker . Her time of 1:08.19 broke Jill's
record set at the LEC meet. Whitaker, Paddock, and
Megan Wilson (Torrington, Conn.) all have their
sights set on breaking several KSC breastroke records this
season. In the same event, the 100
breaststroke, Wilson beat her older sister Jessica
Wilson from Eastern by one tenth of a second!
Junior Jackie Foster (Bedford, N.H.) also
posted a victory in the 200 free (2:03.31).
Wilson also teamed up with Whitaker, O'Leary, and Foster to win
the 200 medley relay (1:59.03).
Keene State men's and women's swim teams host Bridgewater State
on Wednesday (6 p.m.).
