WENHAM, MASS. 1/31/09 - Keene State College men's and women's swim
teams concluded their dual meet schedule by defeating Gordon
College in Wenham, Mass. on Saturday.
The Keene State men (8-4) won all 14 races to post a 97-33
victory. The Owl women (10-4) won 12 of 14 races to swim to a
125-101 win.
The KSC women set a new school record in the 800 free relay.
The team of freshman Jillian Whitaker (Gilford,
N.H.), sophomore Jessica Laidley (Brockton,
Mass.), junior Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.) and
junior Jackie Foster (Bedford, N.H.) posted a time
of 8:03.44. The previous record was 8:06.83 set in 2004.
Junior Kristine Trutor (Holden, Mass.) won the 50
back (29.00), 50 free (26.86), and the 200 I.M. (2:20.72).
Whitaker won the 50 breast (32.09) and the 100 I.M. (1:03.67), and
freshman Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) won the 50
fly (28.55) and the 200 fly (2:27.13).
The KSC men had four double winners. Junior Domingo
Rose (Nashua, N.H.) won the 50 breast (27.56) and the 200
breast (2:19.74), sophomore Dan Morse (Hope, R.I.)
won the 200 free (1:52.42) and the 200 back (2:05.49), sophomore
Karl Balinski (Waterford, Conn.) won the 50 free
(23.64) and the 100 free (50.85), and freshman Harrison
Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.) won the 100 I.M. (58.58) and
the 200 I.M. (2:08.12).
The Owls will now get set for the NEISDA championships. The
defending champion KSC women will travel to UMass-Dartmouth for
their meet on Feb. 20-22. The men's meet will be at Roger Williams
University on Feb. 27-March 1.
