WESTON, MASS. 10/24/09 - Keene State men's and women's swim/dive
teams opened theirs season by defeating Brandeis University in a
dual meet held at Regis College in Weston, Mass. on Saturday.
The Keene State women won 12 out of 16 events to defeat Brandeis
155.5-121/5 while the Owl men, winners of seven of 16 events, beat
the Judges 156-137.
Sophomore Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) led the Owl women by
winning three races; the 100 (1:01.27) and 200 fly (2:17.91), and
the 200 I.M. (2:24.91). She was also a member of the winning
200 medley relay (1:54.3) with freshman Robyn
McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.), sophomore Meghan
Wilson (Torrington, Conn.), and freshman Kaila
Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.).
Senior Jackie Foster (Goffstown, N.H.) and
sophomore Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) were
double winners. Foster swam to wins in the 200 free (2:01.05) and
the 500 free (5:20.32) and Whitaker was the first to touch the wall
in the 100 breast (1:10.57) and the 100 free (55.91).
Single individual wins were posted by senior Kristine
Trutor (Holden, Mass.) in the 100 back (1:01.28), Umbarger
in the 50 free (25.13), and freshman Jaclyn Rando
(Walpole, Mass.) in the one-meter diving event (157.00 points.).
Foster, McCarthy, Trutor, and Whitaker also combined to win the
200 free realy (3:52.81).
Junior Dan Morse (Hope, R.I). and sophomore
Harrison Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.) each posted a
pair of individual wins for the KSC men. Morse won the 500
free (4:56.06) and the 1,000 free (10:09.29) while Hollingsworth
topped the field in the 100 back (55.17) and the 200 back (2:01.42)
races. In other events, senior Domingo Rose
(Nashua, N.H.) won the 100 breast (1:00.98), Junior Connor
Pennoyer (Norwalk, Con.) won the 100 free (49.80), and
sophomore Derek Peabody (Haverhill, Mass.) won the
0ne-meter diving event with 224.10 points.
