ORONO, Maine 11/14/09 -- The Keene State College men's swimming
and diving team remained undefeated (3-0) with a 162-126 victory
over the University of Maine while the Owl women's team (2-2)
dropped their meets to UMaine (178-117) and the University of
Vermont (170-111) in a tri-meet held in Orono on Saturday.
The men were led by senior Domingo Rose
(Nashua, N.H.) who took home first place honors in the 50 free
(22.35), 100 breast (1:00.70), and the 200 breast (2:13.77).
Juniors Lucas Pozzetta (Merrimack, N.H.) and
Dan Morse (Hope, R.I.) were double winners.
Pozzetta picked up a wins in the 200 free (1:49.33) and the 400
I.M. (4:28.05) and Morse touched the wall first in the 200 back
(2:01.69) and the 500 free (4:54.88). Sophomore diver
Derek Peabody (Haverhill, Mass.)
won both one-meter (180.45 points) and three-meter (182.48 points)
while junior Connor Pennoyer (Norwalk Conn.) won
the 100 fly (53.95) and sophomore Harrison
Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.) toped the field in the 100
back (55.55).
The women were led in the pool by Kristine
Trutor (Holden, Mass.) who posted the top time (1:01.44)
in the 100 back. She also joined sophomores Jillian
Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) and Maureen
O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Kaila
Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.) to win the 200 medley relay
(1:52.19). O'Leary also won the 100 fly (1:00.52).
"We had some standout swims throughout the meet," said KSC Coach
Jack Fabian. "Both the men and women 200
yard medley relays were fast enough to beat their Division I
rivals. The place went silent after the first event
when the Keene State underdogs won both the opening relays."
The Owls return to action next Saturday for a tri-meet at
Wheaton College with Springfield College.
