Owls maintain lead after second day of NEISDA championships

             BRISTOL, R.I. 2/28/09 - Keene State College maintained its lead after the second day of competition at the men's New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships taking place at Roger Williams University  in Bristol, R.I. on Saturday.

            Looking to capture their first title and end the four year reign of Bentley University, the Owls have collected 447 points after the completion of 17 events. The Falcons have 352 points.

            "It's a confident with our lead," said KSC Coach Jack Fabian.  "We just have to keep our momentum.  They're ready to win it."

            Keene State hand another big day in the Pool on Saturday, winning five races of the seven races, setting six school records, and posting provisional NCAA championship qualifying times in two events.

            The Owls began the day by setting a school and pool record in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of juniors Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomores Connor Pennoyer (Norwalk, Conn.) and Karl Balinski (Waterford, Con.) and freshmen Colin Daly (Cromwell, Conn.) had a winning time of 1:35.07. Daley also set a KSC record in the 50 back (25.28) swimming the lead leg of the relay.

            After sophomore Patrick Luciano (Warren, N.J.) placed fourth in the 400 I.M. (4:26.80), the Owls posted back-to back wins with Pennoyer swimming to a victory in the 50 fly (24.02) and Balinski topping the field with a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:42.04. 

            The Owls picked up key points in both races.  Freshman Ramsey Haddad (Barrington, R.I.) and sophomore DJ Collis (Laconia, N.H.) finished fourth (24.71) and fifth (24.81) respectively in the 50 fly, and sophomore Dan Theelen (Southbury, Conn.) took third in the 200 free (1:45.73).

            Daley and freshman Harrison Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.) finished second (53.73) and third (53.95) in the 100 backstroke race.  Daly's time was a school record.

            Rose continued his strong meet by capturing the 100 breast in a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 57.33. 

            Keene State concluded the day by winning the 800 free relay.  Sophomores Dan Morse (Hope, R.I.), Lucas Pozzetta (Merrimack, N.H.), Luciano and Theleen joined forces to post a school record time of 7:05.75.

            The three day meet concludes on Sunday,
