Box Score KEENE, N.H. 10/9/10 – The Keene State College field hockey
team scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 Little East
Conference shutout victory over the University of Southern Maine at
Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
With the win, Keene State goes to 10-3 (5-2 LEC) while Southern
Maine drops to 5-9 (3-4 LEC).
Freshman forward Aimee Donaruma
(Hampden, Mass.) gave Keene State a 1-0 lead with her first college
goal. "The ball came off the goalies pad and came right to me and I
just took a shot," said Donaruma. "It felt really good when
it went in. I was so happy."
Junior Elizabeth Coffin
(Sugar Hill, N.H.) finished off a crossing ball from sophomore Alex
Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) to make 2-0 at the 54:31 mark of the
second half. It was her team-leading 14th goal of the season
for Coffin, who has netted at least one goal in the Owls' last five
games.
Keene State dominated play, outshooting the Huskies 12-3 and
holding a 12-4 advantage on penalty corners. USM had a flurry
late in the game, but KSC senior goalie Meghan Ledoux
(Standish, Maine) made a diving save off the stick of sophomore
Lauren Meissner (Windham, Maine) to keep her shutout intact.
Ledoux needed to make just one save to notch her third shutout
of the season and fifth of her career.
Freshman Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) finished the game with
five saves for Southern Maine.
Keene State host #17 ranked Middlebury College on Tuesday (6:30
p.m.). Southern Maine is at Bates on Wednesday (5 p.m.).
