WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT. 2/20/10 - Keene State men's and
women's swim teams maintained their lead after the second day of
competition at New England Intercollegiate Swimming and
Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at the Upper Valley
Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt. on Saturday.
Looking for it second straight title, the Keene State men won
all eight races to take a 466-392 lead over Bentley
University. Keene State women, in the hunt for a third
consecutive crown, hold a slim 666-642 lead over Bentley.
"The men are in pretty good shape, but the women are going to
have to fight for every inch if their going to come out on top,"
said KSC Coach Jack Fabian.
The KSC men, who set four school records, began the day by
establishing a new meet mark in the 200 medley relay. The
team of seniors Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.),
Cody Larrimore (Trappe, Md.), junior
Connor Pennoyer (Norwalk, Conn.), and sophomore
Harrison Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.) won the event
with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:33.15.
Freshmen Marc Marois (Derry, N.H.) and
Ray Estrada (Bellingham Mass.) finished one
(4:13.06)-two (4:16.08) in the 400 I.M. Marois' time was a
school record.
Pennoyer won the 50 fly in a time of 23.36. Junior
D.J. Collis (Laconia, N.H.) was right behind in
second (23.86). Junior Lucas Pozzetta (Merrimack,
N.H.) followed with a first place finish in the 200 free (1:44.65).
Hollingsworth prevailed in the 100 back with a school record
time of 52.34 and Rose wrapped up the individual races by taking
the 100 breast in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 57.44.
Juniors Dan Morse (Hope, R.I.) and
Patrick Luciano (Warren, N.J.) and freshman Justin
Churchill (North Springfield, Vt.) joined Pozzetta to win the 800
free relay in a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time
of 7:05.32.
The Keene State women set five school and two meet records on
Saturday. The Owls set the tone by winning the 200 medley
relay with a school and NCAA provisional qualifying time of
146.60. The relay included seniors Alea
Paddock (Newbury, N.H.), Kristine Trutor
(Holden, Mass.), sophomore Jillian Whitaker
(Gilford, N.H.) and freshman Kaila Umbarger
(Chelmsford, Mass.).
Umbarger shattered the school and meet record with her first
place time of 24.98 in the 50 fly. Senior Jackie
Foster (Goffstown, N.H.) and sophomore Maureen
O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) placed first (1:55.18) and second
(1:58.02) respectively in the 200 free.
Trutor touched with wall first in the 100 back (57.65).
Paddock placed second in the 400 I.M. with a school record time of
4:44.13 and Whitaker also set an Owl mark in the 100 breast
(1:05.84) with her second-place performance. Paddock and
Whitaker posted NCAA provisional qualifying times in their races.
The team of Whitaker, Paddock, Foster, and O'Leary concluded the
day by winning the 800 free relay with a school and NCAA
provisional qualifying time of 7:50.89.
The three-day championship meet concludes on Sunday.
