Box Score MIDDLEBURY, VT 10/11/11 - The Keene State College field hockey team fell to the No. 10 ranked Middlebury College Panthers 7-1 on Tuesday night at Kohn Field.
With the loss the Owls fall to 11-3 on the season, with all three of their losses coming against NESCAC opponents, while the Panthers improve to 9-2 on the campaign.
Panther junior forward Lauren Greer (North Hampton, N.H.) netted a hat-trick to lead Middlebury offensively. Senior forward Hannah Clarke (Falmouth, Maine) found the back of the net twice, while Lucy Jackson (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Hailey Culhane (Titusville, N.J.) each scored once to account for their seven goals.
Trailing 7-0, Owl senior forward Alyce Ferenc (Rumney, N.H.) put the Owls on the scoreboard with 5:57 remaining, for the 7-1 final.
Freshman goalies Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) and D.J. Cassidy (Lowell, Mass.) split time protecting the net for the Owls. Davino-Draper got the start allowing five goals and setting aside five shot in the loss, while Cassidy made a career-high 13 saves in the second half allowing two goals in relief. Middlebury used three goalies in the win, with Becca Shaw (South Burlington, VT) played the first half making two saves in the win.
Middlebury outshot Keene State 33-6 on the game and held a stern 11-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Owls return to action on Saturday as they will host LEC rival Eastern Conn. State at 1:30 p.m. where KSC will "Play for the Cure" and take donations for breast cancer research at the game. All donations are welcome.
