Box Score

KEENE, N.H. 10/15/11 – Outshooting the visiting Warriors 39-2, the Keene State College field hockey team remained unbeaten in Little East Conference play with a 4-0 victory over Eastern Conn. State at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls and Warriors each wore pink today and held raffles for donated prizes in an effort to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

With the victory the Owls improve to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in league play, while the Warriors drop to 2-12 and 0-8 in conference contests.

Striking early, KSC jumped onto the scoreboard just over five minutes into the contest, as sophomore back Katlyn Simula (Bridgewater, N.H.) cashed in on a designed corner from junior forward Kalin Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) and sophomore midfielder Aimee Donaruma (Hampden, Mass.) for the 1-0 advantage.

In the games ninth minute, ECSU senior midfielder Lyndsey Zavisza (Enfield, Conn.) made a great defensive save but senior forward Jacki Benson (Hampstead, N.H.) put home the rebound for KSC's second goal of the game and a 2-0 lead.

ECSU had another defensive save, from sophomore back Kelly Gawron (Ramsey, N.J.) with just over 22 minutes remaining as the Owls attack forced the ECSU netminder to come far out of the goal and Gawron was there to stop a Leddy Gallagher (Acton, Mass.) shot from finding the back of the cage.

KSC had plenty of chances to add to their lead, but Warrior senior netminder Danielle Reichardt (Ocean Township, N.J.) set aside 14 shots in the first half, including three shots in a row from point blank range with just over a minute left in the stanza.

In the second half it was all Owls, as Kalin Billert would add her ninth tally of the season off another juicy rebound to give Keene State the 3-0 lead at the 46:41 mark.

Sophomore back Hannah Gage (Lebanon, N.H.) would net her first career goal off a short pass from freshman forward Melissa Habelow (Belmont, N.H.) in the games 60th minute, as the Owls would hold on for the 4-0 victory.

Splitting time in goal for the Owls Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.), D.J. Cassidy (Lowell, Mass.) and Amanda Davis (Hollis, N.H.) combined for the shutout facing no shots on goal. Reichardt finished the contest with 20 saves and the four goals allowed in the losing effort.

KSC returns to action Sunday night at 5 p.m., as they will take on national powerhouse Christopher Newport at Owl Athletic Complex. Eastern Conn. returns to action Wednesday, as they will host Western Conn. State at 4 p.m. in a Little East Conference tilt.
