Box Score Salem, Mass. 10/5/11 - The Keene State Owls extended their winning streak to four games after a 2-0 shutout victory over the Salem State Vikings on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. KSC improved to 9-2 with the win, and remained atop the Little East Conference, unbeaten with a 6-0 record. Salem State is now 3-7 on the year and 0-6 in the Little East.
Salem State which hosted their annual "Think Pink Night" to raise awareness for cancer research, played Keene State tough, but could not get going on the offensive end the entire night due to a suffocating Keene State defense.
The Owls finally found the back of the net in the 28th minute as junior forward Kalin Billert (Center Conway, NH) scored on a nice feed from senior forward Jacki Benson (Hampstead, NH) to build a1-0 lead. Billert has now found the back of the net for KSC in three consecutive contests and is tied for the team-lead in goals with eight.
Keene State kept Salem State on their heels for the remainder of the match, out-shooting the Vikings 25-1 for the game, but it was not until sophomore midfielder Aimee Donaruma (Hampden, MA) found Niki Smith (Southwick, MA) in the 67th minute that the Owls broke the game open and coasted for the 2-1 win.
Freshman goaltender Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, MA) picked up her ninth win of the season by making one save in the shutout. Boyer finished with 13 stops for the Vikings.
Former Keene State College field hockey player Jess Mirisola '07 coached against her alma mater for the first time Wednesday night as the head coach of the Vikings.
Keene State will play again tomorrow night at New England College at 6 p.m. before hitting the road for an 11 a.m. contest at Worcester State on Saturday.
