Box Score KEENE, N.H. 10/4/12 –Sophomore Marisa Lemoine (Berlin, N.H.) had two goals to lead Keene State College to a 6-2 win over New England College in non-conference field hockey action at Owl Athletic Complex on Thursday night.
Winners of five straight, Keene State improves to 8-4. New England College falls to 4-8.
The Owls, who scored three goals in each half, didn't waste any time getting on the board. Senior Kaitlin Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) scored her team-leading 14 goal of the season on a rebound to give KSC a 1-0 lead just a minute into the game.
Freshman Lyndsie Rabenius (North Hampton, N.H.) made it a 2-0 game three minutes later, scoring from the left side of the net.
Lemoine scored the first of her two goals on back hand shot at the 12:08 mark to give KSC a 3-0 halftime lead.
Pilgrim junior Jaclyn Papagni (Lynnfield, Mass.) kept it a three goal game making consecutive defensive saves on shots by Rabenius and junior Leddy Gallagher (Acton, Mass.) later in the half.
New England College cut the Owls lead to 3-1 less than a minute into the second half when Kate Roberge (Essex Junction, Vt.) netted the first of her two goals.
Lemoine got the goal right back for Keene State, flipping a loose ball over NEC junior goalie Courtney Duquette (Enfield, N.H.). "It's all about positioning inside the circle and finding where the ball is." said Lemoine, who has six goals this season. "We've been working on that in practice and it definitely showing on the scoreboard."
Rabenius, who picked up one of her two assists on the goal, was all over the field bringing the ball into the Pilgrim's side of the field. "I've always had the role of distributor, so I brought it to the forward line. It's been a great bonus," she said. "We just keep hammering other teams. It's great to have Haylie (Dolan) and Kaitlin (Billert) on my right and left. We used to playing next to each other."
Junior Katlyn Simula (Bridgewater, N.H.) scored on a penalty stroke to give KSC a 5-1 lead.
Roberge got her second goal of the game and eighth of the season, on a penalty corner to make it 5-2.
Junior Aimee Donaruma (Hampden, Mass.) scored the Owls' final goal on a penalty stroke.
The Owls have found the scoring touch of late, netting 29 goals in their last five games.
Keene State bombarded the NEC goal with 43 shots and limited the Pilgrims to just seven shots in the game. The Owls had a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners.
KSC Coach Amy Watson used all three of her goalie in the game. Sophomore Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) played the first 48:01 and made one save. Freshman Meaghan Dwyer (Rutland, Mass.) and Chloe Audesse (Goffstown, N.H.) also saw time between the pipes. Dwyer also had a save in the game.
Duquette had a busy game in goal for the Pilgrims, finishing with 21 saves.
Pilgrim Coach Susan Murray is a KSC alum while Owl assistant Jodie Dresser is a former standout field hockey player for the Pilgrims.
Both teams return to conference play on Saturday. The Owls host Worcester State in a Little East game at 1 p.m. NEC travels to Lasell for a North Atlantic Conference game at 1 p.m.
