Box Score BRIDGEWATER, MASS. 11/10/12 – Senior Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, N.H.) scored two goals to lead third seed Plymouth State University to a 2-1 victory over second seed Keene State College in an ECAC New England field hockey tournament semifinal game played at Swenson Field in Bridgewater, Mass. on Saturday.
The Owls conclude their season with a 15-9 record. The Panthers (12-7) move on the finals where they will face top seed Bridgewater State on Sunday. The Bears defeated the University of New England 2-1 in their semifinal game earlier in the day.
KSC sophomore goalie Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) kept Keene State in the game in the early going with several fine saves.
The Panther finally got on the board at the 19:38 mark when Colborn beat Davino-Draper with a shot to the bottom right corner of the net.
Looking to tie the game with 12 minutes to play, freshman Lyndsie Rabenius (North Hampton, N.H.) broke in alone, but PSU junior defender Alisha Rai Thompson (Berlin, N.H.) was able to knock the ball away.
Plymouth State went up 2-0 with 7:50 to play. Sophomore Kristen Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) pulled Davino-Draper out of the net and fed Colborn who put the ball into the vacated goal for her second goal of the game and her 22nd of the season.
Freshman Haylie Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.) cut the Panthers' lead in half with 1:48 to play. She scored her eighth goal of the season on a drive from just inside the circle.
The Owls were awarded a pair of penalty corner opportunities in the final minute, including one with no time remaining, but were unable to convert the equalizing tally.
Plymouth State outshot the Owls 20-10 and had a 13-9 advantage in penalty corners.
Both goalies turned in fine performances between the pipes. Davino-Draper finished the game with 11 saves. Panther junior keeper Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) stopped five shots.
Returning to the ECACs for the first time since 2009, Keene State was making its eighth appearance in the ECAC Tournament. The Owls defeated Springfield College 2-1 to claim the 2003 crown.
