Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. 9/26/12 – Freshman Haylie Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.) scored the tying and go-ahead goals in the seond half to lead the Keene State field hockey team over rival Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference game played at Arnold Field on Wednesday.
Keene State (5-4, 3-1 LEC) has won three of its last four games. Plymouth State (5-3, 3-1 LEC) suffered its first Little East loss of the season.
After sophomore Nikki Garvey (Canaan, N.H.) scored to give PSU a 3-2 lead at the 51:28 of the second half, Dolan went to work. The freshman scored the tying goal one minute later on a rebound. She netted the game-winner 10 minutes later, steering a crossing ball from senior Kalin Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) past Panther junior goalie Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) for her second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season.
"I got a great cross on the fourth goal and it just had to direct it into the open side of the net," said Dolan. "It was a really big game. We wanted it really bad and we couldn't come off that field losing."
"Haley played great in front of the net. She was patient and got her stick on the ball and came through with a couple of big goals," said KSC Coach Amy Watson.
Watson said the teams' speed played a big role in the win. "We played a lot of people and tried to use our speed to our advantage," she said. "We can't do a lot of things we do on this grass surface that we do like to do on turf, but we can move fast."
Junior Katlyn Simula (Bridgewater, N.H.) scored an insurance goal on a penalty stroke for the Owls final goal.
The Panthers just out to an early 1-0 lead just 2:54 into the game on a goal by junior Lauren Carroll (Rollinsford, N.H.). The Billert twins gave the Owls a 2-1 lead. Kalin Billert scored her team leading 10th goal of the season to make it 1-1. Alex Billert got her first goal of the season following a scrum in front of the net to put KSC up 2-1.
Senior Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, N.H.) tied the score right before halftime.
Keene State outshot the Panthers 16-9 and had a 13-8 advantage in penalty corner chances.
Sophomore Caitlin Davino-Draper finished the game with five saves for the Owls. Lemelin stopped eight shots for PSU.
Keene State travels to Western Conn. on Saturday for a 5p.m LEC game against the Colonials.
