Owls open season by sinking Bridgewater State and Roger Williams

KEENE, N.H. 10/26/13 – The Keene State College men's and women's swim teams opened their season by posting wins over Bridgewater State University and Roger Williams University at Spaulding Gym Poll on Saturday.

The Keene State men's team defeated Bridgewater State 254-38 and Roger Williams 233-65 while the Owl women beat Bridgewater State 220-57 and Roger Williams 204-83.

The KSC men won 14 of 16 events while the owl women prevailed in 13 of the 14 swimming races.

"It was a strong showing for our first meet," said KSC Coach Jack Fabian.  "The swimmers put up some respectable times for this point in the season."

Senior Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.), a five-time All-America, led the KSC men by winning the 200 free (1:42.64) and the 500 free (4:34.42).  His time in the 500 free was a NCAA B-cut qualifying time.  Sophomore Cole Hogg (Manchester, N.H.) was also a double-winner, taking the 100 fly (53.13) and the 200 fly (1:57.65).

Single wins were posted by sophomore Matthew Ahlberg (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the 1,000 free (10:17.93), freshman Chris Barriss (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the 100 back (54.46), sophomore Greg Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.) in the 50 free (21.21), senior James Black (Lynn, Mass.) in the 100 free (48.03), senior Randall Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.) in the 200 back (2:00.67), and senior Jared Hyde (Tolland, conn.) in the 200 I.M. (2:00.48).

KSC also swept both relays.  Freshman Nathan Shepard (Keene, N.H.) teamed with Dunton, Hyde and Youngstrom to win the 200 medley relay (1:37.16) and freshman Ryan Boraski (North Attleboro, Mass.) joined Black, Hyde and Youngstrom to win the 200 free relay (1:26.94).

Senior Josh Tuller (Plainview, N.Y.) also won the one-meter (239.60 points) and three-meter (249.40 points) diving events.

Junior Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) led the way for the Keene State women's team, winning the 100 breast (1:08.56), 200 breast (2:33.10) and the 200 I.M. (2:14.90).  Sophomore Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) senior Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) and junior Caitlyn Shea were double-winners.  Bartlett won the 50 free (24.49) and the 100 free (54.04), Murray won the 200 free (2:01.49) and the 500 free (5:26.33) and Shea won the 100 fly (1:02.36) and the 200 fly (2:15.41).

Sophomore Amber Long (Dover, N.H.) won the 1,000 free (11:07.91) and  senior Nicole Rutigliano (Woodbury, Conn.) won the 100 back (1:00.45).

In the relays, senior Alexis Houser (New Hope, Pa.) and junior Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y.) teamed with Pimer and Bartlett to win the 200 medley relay (1:51.08).  The foursome of DaSilva, Bartlett, Houser and Murray won the 200 free relay (1:41.40).

Keene State competes at Boston College next Friday and then competes at the New England Invitation swim meet at Weslyan College the next day.
