CHESNUT HILL, MASS. 11/2/13 – The Keene State College men's and women's swim teams gave Division I Boston College all it could handle before falling to the Eagles in a dual meet on Friday at the Flynn Complex Pool.
The Keene State men had impressive day in the pool winning eight races, losing by just 15 points 157.5 -142.5. The Owl women held their own, taking four events in a lost 197-103. Both KSC teams are now 2-1 on the season.
"Anytime we win an event against a Division I program like Boston College it's a reminder of how far we have come as a program," said KSC Coach Jack Fabian.
Senior Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) raced to First place finishers in three events, winning the 200 free (1:42.46), 200 I.M. (1:57.58) and the 200 back (1:56.49). Sophomore Shahar Resman (Ashdod, Israel) took two races, winning the 500 free (4:44.15) and the 1,000 free (9:58.72). Sophomore Cole Hogg (Manchester, N.H.) won the 200 fly (1:58.01) and freshman Christopher Barriss (Glastonbury, Conn.) also won the 100 back (53.72).
Senior James Black (Lynn, Mass.), sophomore Greg Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.), freshman Ryan Boraski (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Ledwith teamed up to win the 200 free relay, setting a BC pool record with a time of 1:25.23. They broke the previous mark by .01 second set by Notre Dame set in 1992.
In the women's competition, junior Caity Shea (Salem, N.H.) won the 1,000 (10:53.55), classmate Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y.) won the 100 back (1:00.28), sophomore Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) won the 100 free (53.45) and sophomore Amber Long (Dover, N.H.) won the 200 I.M. (2:20.19).
The Owls return to the pool on Saturday for the New England Invitational at Wesleyan College.
