STORRS, CONN. 2/16/13 - Sending a few of his top swimmers down to the UConn Husky Invitational to improve their qualifying times for the NCAA Division III Championships, Keene State Coach Jack Fabian couldn't be happier with the results on Saturday.
Sophomore Julie Trodden (Reading, Mass.) not only improved her provisional time with her first place finish in the 1,650 free by three seconds (17:30.15), but also broke the school record with her split time of 10:28.34 at the 1,000-yard mark.
Sophomore Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) made a big drop with her fist place performance in the 200 breast (2:21.82). Her time will put her in strong contention to qualify for the nationals. Pimer, who is undefeated in the event this season, broke the school record set by Jill Whitaker.
In the men's competition, freshman Cole Hogg (Manchester, N.H.) won the 500 free (4:38.96) and junior Randy Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.) won the 200 back (1:54.56). .
KSC took the top three spots in the 50 free with freshman Greg Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.) finishing first (21.09), junior Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) taking second (21.32) and senior Austin Harris (Essex Junction) placing third (21.46). The Owls also went 1-2-3 in the 100 free with junior James Black (Lynn, Mass.) finishing first (46.90), Harris taking second (47.06) and Hogg placing third (47.51).
The Keene State men top the February 13th Endless Pools/ CollegeSwimming.com Division III Top 25 poll while the Owls are fifth in the women's rankings.
