KINGSTON, R.I.--Both the Keene State College men's and women's
swimming and diving teams maintained their respective leads at the
New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association
Championships at the University of Rhode Island on
Saturday.
The second day of competition was forced to forgo the scheduled
preliminary swims in the morning and replace them with timed
finals, due to the threat of snow throughout the New England area.
Competition is still scheduled to resume on Sunday.
The KSC men now total 729 points, well in front of second placed
Roger Williams University, while the Owl women have 1,137.5 points,
nearly double second placed RWU.
Keene State's men won all eight contested swim events. The
foursome of Harrison
Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.), Randy
Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.), Dan
Oliveira (Ludlow, Mass.), and Greg
Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.) captured the 200 medley
relay an a pool record 1:34.28.
Drew
Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) was part of two wins, picking up an
individual victory in the 400 yard IM in 4:14.59, and as a member
of the 800 medley relay winning group with Cole
Hogg (Manchester, N.H.), James
Black (Lynn, Mass.), and Shahar
Resman (Ashdod, Israel), in a time of 6:54.02.
Resman also recorded a win in the 200 yard freestyle, leading
KSC to a sweep of the top three places in the event. Resman
touched in at 1:42.76, with teammates Alex
Turner (Lakeville, Mass.) (1:44.32) and James Black
(1:44.69) right behind. Oliveira also won the 50 butterfly,
in a time of 23:08, while Dunton won the 100 backstroke in 52.60
seconds, just ahead of teammate Ryan
Boraski (North Attleborough, Mass.), who finished in
52.82.
Jared
Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) won the 100 breastroke in 57.83
seconds, while Turner won the 100 breaststroke in 9:51.04.
The Keene State women were equally as dominant, capturing five
events on Day Two. Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y.), Diana
Pimer (West Haven, Conn.), Lexi Houser (New Hope, Pa.) , and and
Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) won the 200 yard medley relay by
four seconds over second place Eastern Connecticut State, with a
time of 1:47.81.
Pimer picked up a win on her own in the 400 yard IM, posting a
seven second victory in 4:38.68, while Houser and Liz Gallugi went
1-2 in the 50 fly in 26.24 and 27.22, respectively. Bartlett
won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.29, and Caity Shea (Salem, N.H.)
capped off the Owl winners with a 12 second win in the 1,000
freestyle in 10:43.86.
Joshua Tuller (Lakeview, N.Y.) and Cody Fitzgerald (Concord,
Mass.) placed second and third on the 3-meter dive. Tuller
scored 372.55 and Fitzgerald scored 370.60.
The competition concludes on Sunday.
