Owls Retain NEISDA Championships

KINGSTON, R.I.--The Keene State College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both won their 2014 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Rhode Island on Sunday.

The KSC men finished with a pair of school records;  Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) set a new Tootell Aquatic Center and NEISDA record in the 1,650 freestyle, while the 400 freestyle relay team did as well.   The Owl men finished with 1,121 points, comfortably in front of Roger Williams, who totalled 616 points.  It was the second consecutive title for Keene State, and fourth in six years.

KSC swept the top four places in the 100 freestyle, with less than .01 seconds separating 1-3.  Cole Hogg (Manchester, N.H). claimed the win in 46.75 seconds, just ahead of teammates James Black (Lynn, Mass), who finished in 46.78, Greg Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.), who had a time of 46.83, and Christopher Barris (Glastonbury, Conn.), who fnished in 47.64.

Ledwith broke his own pool record in the 1,650 freestyle, with a time of 15:29.29.  Ledwith had set the NEISDA record back in 2011.  The Owls again took the top four places, with Shahar Resman (Ashdod, Israel) timing in at 15:33.72, Matthew Ahlberg (Glastonbury, Conn.) in 16:35.44, and Graham Lott (Gloucester, Mass.) in 16:48.15.  

Ryan Boraski (North Attleborough, Mass.) won the 50 backstroke in 24.40 seconds, with teammate Harrison Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.) right behind in 24.64.  Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:05.65, and Dan Oliveira (Ludlow, Mass.) was .05 out of a win in the 200 butterfly in 1:53.90.   

There was another close race in the 100 yard IM, where Randy Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.) clocked in a winning time of 53.34, edging RWU's David Kitchen by .02 seconds.  

The Owls rounded out the night by winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:03.18, a full nine seconds ahead of second placed Roger Williams.  

KSC's women's team compiled a total of 1,664.50 points, also well ahead of RWU, who finished with 1,130 points.  The KSC women also defended their title, adding to championships won in 2001 and 2008-10.

Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) hit an NCAA B-Cut in the A-final of the 100 freestyle in 52.13, one of six wins for the Keene State women on Sunday.  Liv Gallugi won the B-final in 55.81.   Brianna Laliberte (Candia, N.H.) and Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y.) took the top two spots in the the 50 yard backstroke.  Laliberte touched in with a time of 27.76, just ahead of DaSilva, who finished in 27.94.  

Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) picked up a victory in the 200 breaststroke, edging past Roger Williams' Hailey Martell in 2:28.57, and KSC's Amber Long (Dover, N.H.) narrowly missed a win in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 2:12.43, just .33 out of first and nearly a second better than her seed time.  Lexi Houser (New Hope, Pa.) won the 100 IM in 1:00.43, and the 400 yard freestyle relay won in dominant fashion, clocking in at 3:32.56 for a more than 10 second victory.  

Shannon Summers (Keene, N.H.) was KSC's lone female diver, placing fifth on the 1-meter board with a score of 326.00
